Obscure but favorite hymn

With email today, news can literally travel the globe, and friends can connect with people they haven't thought of in years. What an incredible blessing. Even though I've only kept in touch with a few friends from my high school church choir days, I can still receive the news of former Crusader Choir members from my one faithful correspondent. (Thanks, Jan!)

This week I heard that one such person, an older girl I always admired, has left this world and is now with Jesus. What I never knew is that Sarah's desire was to have our old theme song sung at her funeral. In fact, I understand that today they are gathering a group of old Crusaders to sing "Whate'er My God Ordains is Right" at her memorial service. This was always a secret desire of mine as well, though extremely unlikely to happen in my case.

It's not nearly the same without the music, but the words have remained my theme in life and my hope in death. If I can find a website with a choir singing it a capella, I will link it for your full enjoyment. The rich four-part harmony by Pachelbel is what makes the piece so amazing. Being on the mission field, I missed the Crusader reunion when our beloved director retired, but I long for heaven when many of us will be reunited, and hopefully singing again with glorified voices:

Whate'er my God ordains is right:
Holy his will abideth;
I will be still whate'er he doth;
And follow where he guideth:
He is my God: though dark my road,
He holds me that I shall not fall:
Wherefore to him I leave it all.

Whate'er my God ordains is right:
He never will deceive me;
He leads me by the proper path;
I know he will not leave me:
I take, content, what he hath sent;
His hand can turn my griefs away,
And patiently I wait his day.

Whate'er my God ordains is right:
Though now this cup, in drinking,
May bitter seem to my faint heart,
I take it, all unshrinking:
My God is true; each morn anew
Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart,
And pain and sorrow shall depart.

Whate'er my God ordains is right:
Here shall my stand be taken;
Though sorrow, need, or death be mine,
Yet am I not forsaken;
My Father's care is round me there;
He holds me that I shall not fall:
And so to him I leave it all.

I gave up finding it online. There's another one with the same words, but different tune.
