While I'm on the subject of Coke, at the risk of losing my few faithful readers, I thought I'd mention a bit of trivia and a funny true story.
Trivia: did you know that Mexican Coke is the best? That's my kids' opinion. The reason? It's made with real sugar from sugar cane (a Mexican product) rather than corn syrup like in the U.S.
Once our son Tim went so far as to pay for overweight baggage when going back to college after Christmas break, because he insisted on taking some Coke back to share with his buddies in the Explore program. He even hiked up a mountain carrying it in his backpack for a camp-out in Montana to surprise his friends with two liters of ice-cold Mexican Coca-Cola. Hopefully I got enough of the facts wrong to get him to jump in and correct me with his comments. His comments are sometimes better than the original post.
Now another story... We had a pastor and his wife come down from a supporting church, and they thought it was hilarious that the missionaries were actually offering them "coke-in-a-bag." It never occurred to me that it might evoke images of a certain white powdery substance by the same nickname.
I was hoping to dig out a photo of them drinking Coke, but all I found was this not-terribly-flattering one of them tackling tamales with bottled water. All I can say truthfully then, is that they "might" have sipped, but they didn't snort. (Notice how carefully they hid the name of their church on their polo shirts.... It's Clearview Church in Columbia Station, Ohio)

Well I have to agree with your kids that Mexican coke is best, it really does taste different. Oh by the way we recently moved to Houston so if you pass through here on your way north this year please know you have a place to stay!
WE MISS MEXICAN COKE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gosh that sounds bad doesn't it.
But you're right - theirs IS the best. :)
Thanks for verifying the value of real Mexican Coke.
Charlsie, we won't likely stop through Houston going up, but we might consider it coming back in September. We have friends we haven't seen in way too long, even longer than you and Mike. I'd love to see the newest Swadley, too.
We can get Mexican Coke from Costco [smile].

Really, now? That will make my kiddos very happy when we go up to the US this spring! Might be worth joining Costco if Sams Club doesn't sell it.
Unfortunately, mom, you pretty much summed up my story, so I don't have much to say... haha. I had a 90 pound bag because 30 of it was Coke. I'm not sure if it was worth the 50 bucks for the 4 bottles... oh what am I saying, of course it was. they were 2.5 liter bottles, and my "team" in Explore loved me for carting it up the mountain, to drink in our snow cave (quintzee).
The part you missed is that I was carrying a 70 pound bag plus 2.5 liters of coke, on skis for the first time... add all that up, and you got one mexican upside down in the snow. the second time I tried carting the coke, it was on snowshoes. wide base, good balance, very secure. I felt so confident I ran down a snowy slope with my 70 pound bag... again, one mexican upside down in the snow. only this time the snowshoes caught on my machete (naturally I was carrying a machete) and I was a human pretzel until someone helped me.
