Super Undie Irony
Of all the wedding week memories I could relate, this is the first one that popped into my head. I was sitting in the lobby of our hotel in East Peoria last Thursday night, and the manager told me there had been complaints of the girls making too much of a ruckus in the room where they were supposedly having a quiet bachelorette party, playing games, having snacks, and getting pedicures.
Before I could answer, a large group of guys ambled through the lobby wearing nothing but Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Ironman, and other hero underwear. It wouldn't have been so bad if several hadn't greeted me, "Hi, Mom!" on their way past me.
That explained the noise people had heard. Apparently, the bachelor party had hidden in the bathroom of the girls' suite and crashed their party scantily clad in their boxer briefs. Mike popped out announcing, "Did someone call for a Super Hero?" which set off the screams and the calls to the front desk. I will spare you the more graphic photos lest you be scarred for life.
Some of the bridesmaids wondered if my naive single daughters might not require therapy to help them dislodge such a sight from their minds, but then my daughter reminded them that they had grown up with four of those "superheroes," so the damage wasn't permanent.
Two days after this incident, several of Jim's relatives attended Mike and Amy's wedding. I asked the groom if he remembered Katie, and he admitted that the only time he remembers this attractive 30-something second-cousin-twice-removed was when we visited her family many years ago. He is still embarrassed that he and his brothers had to go in the hot tub in their tighty-whiteys with her.
Does anyone else see the irony in this?
They may be in their 20's (except Jonny), married, and all grown up, but when my four sons get together they are still such BOYS. Other brotherly activities last week included sting pong, paintball, and mud wrestling. At least the superhero antics didn't leave them bruised!
Chris must have avoided the camera, knowing he will have impressionable children himself before long. Hmm...

There is such love between those boys - makes me smile just thinking about it. The undies story will definitely go into the family 'remember when?' list :)
Congratulations on the wedding!!! Maybe this is what I am in for with 2 boys! Guess I really shouldn´t be embarrassed by the little things they do now like carrying my 2 year old screaming from Walmat because they want another car! (Yes, despite the fact that I said that my children would never have a tantrum in the store it has happened, just not something you can avoid thing during the early training years.)
