Welcome, friends! Thanks for visiting my blog. You can see it is a hodge podge of memories and lessons I've learned in life. Browse around, make yourself at home, and leave me a comment from time to time. Thanks!
When my kids were little, I remember my sisters and sister-in-law telling me I just HAD to see this 1989 Steve Martin movie called Parenthood. Somehow it reminded them of my family. Eventually we rented a copy from Blockbusters and watched it AFTER the kids had gone to bed. Except for several inappropriate scenes that I was embarrassed to watch in front of my parents, I had to admit that yes, it was pretty funny. We could relate to many of the scenes.
If I remember correctly my wicked sister said something like, "How much is it worth to you for us not to teach your boys the Diarrhea Song?" With visions of 10,000 miles in the van with everyone singing the diarrhea song for the next 20 years, I'm sure I agreed to her demands. They never heard it. (Until now - if any of them actually read my blog....)
There is another clip online which is especially Loker-ish, showing Steve Martin's son with a bucket on his head banging into a wall. That is a perfect picture of the way I remember my own children as toddlers. To make matters worse, I had a good friend whose children were more like the precocious little cousin who was learning French and calculating mental math problems at age three.
One last clip you should see is http://www.anyclip.com/movies/parenthood/my-kid-is-smart/ but I couldn't make the clip work here. Like I said, the movie has a bunch of scenes you wouldn't want your kids seeing, but it did make me laugh out loud several times.
