Biggest Shower of Blessing

As long as my brain is replaying 1985, I thought I'd continue with my stories concerning Christopher's birth and baby showers.  The really big baby shower was thrown the following summer just before we left for Guatemala.  Jim and I were told that we were invited to a surprise birthday party for Mary Ann, a dear friend from Bethel Temple.

When we walked in the fellowship hall, it was packed with friends and well-wishers.  The shock was upon discovering that the party was for us, not Mary Ann, who was actually in the kitchen behind the scenes as she always was.  Jim saw that it was a baby shower, and looked over at me and said, "Are you pregnant?!"  That was the ironic part of the evening in retrospect.  I replied, "I don't think so, " but later we found out that I really was!

Christopher was ten months old, and the church blessed us with little boy clothes from size 2T to 6T, enough (they thought) to last us for the next four years.  Little did they know that we would have two more baby boys before completing our first 4-year term on the mission field.  Those clothes were used for a long time.

Some people gave us other practical gifts, like new luggage, which likewise got many years of heavy use.

Is it really possible that this was 25 years ago?  Does every mother blink and suddenly find herself so far down the road?  With Mother's Day tomorrow I am remembering so many sweet moments like this.  Seeing Nonnie with Christopher makes me long for grandbabies!
