JACARANDA!
Isn't that a fun word? It sounds like something Batman would exclaim to Robin. "Holy Jacaranda!" That's the name of the gorgeous periwinkle blossomed tree that blooms in the driest season in Oaxaca - (March). I love it. Each year we have a few more jacaranda trees that come up on their own. I'm forever digging up seed pods from our flower bed. Soon we'll have a carpet of blue blossoms to rake.
Just when the dry colorless dessert is getting to me, the jacaranda blooms and the bougainvillea are so cheery. What a sweet gift. Even though I may complain about the dust and heat, it does help to have some color to raise my spirits until the rains start.
We'll have to wait a few more months before the rains come and we see this much green around our house. It's all weeds, but we like to pretend it's grass. Meanwhile the hot season is upon us, and warm windy afternoons are the norm. If you are ever curious about the weather down here, it's safe to say it's warm and sunny during the day, and chilly at night.
In case you ever wondered....
